Glacier Hike & Ice Climbing from Reykjavik

Your pickup will start from your selected pick up point. From there you will head towards the glacier. 

On the way to Solheimajokull glacier you will drive through the picturesque south coast, where you'll see waterfalls, black beaches, volcanoes and lava fields. 

Sólheimajökull is a part of Iceland's fourth largest glacier, Mýrdalsjökull. This glacier tongue is a remarkable and ever-changing hub of ancient frozen wate a truly phenomenal place.




Experience an incredible small-group glacier hiking adventure, where you can try ice climbing a truly sensational activity in Iceland! This tour is perfect for beginners or those with prior glacier experience, offering three magnificent hours on the ice. 




All necessary equipment, including ice axes, helmets, crampons, and safety lines, is provided. Your certified glacier guide will provide equipment instructions and a safety briefing, ensuring a safe and unforgettable expedition.



On the way back you'll stop at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can stand behind the cascading water.

How far from Reykjavik does the tour start? 


The meeting location is 165 km (100 miles) from Reykjavik. 


Weather in Iceland can be unpredictable, and even if it starts off beautiful in the morning during your Reykjavík pick-up, it may change suddenly. You might experience all four seasons in one day, so it's essential to be prepared and bring plenty of layers.



Dressing appropriately for Icelandic weather can be a bit challenging. We suggest layering your clothing, with three upper layers being ideal. Start with a light wool t-shirt closest to your skin, followed by a fleece or heavy wool garment, and finish with a waterproof windbreaker.

For pants, lightweight hiking pants, track pants, or long cotton pants are recommended, with wind/waterproof pants on top. It's best to avoid jeans for hiking, as they become heavy, cold, and uncomfortable when wet.



We highly recommend bringing your backpack. You can pack a snack and some extra clothing. 



We encourage you to take your camera as this tour offers stunning scenery. 



I'm pregnant, can I still join the tour? 


This is of course a personal choice, many pregnant women have joined this tour before but we recommend reading the tour description well and discussing this with your physician before deciding. 



There are no meals provided on this tour. We always recommend bringing snacks and water. There are some nice restaurants close by that you can visit before or after your tour. 



Crampons are metal spikes that are attached to your boots for better traction on the glacier. They enable you to walk easily on the icy terrain of the glacier. The crampons are provided on the tour. 



Rain is common in Iceland, this does not affect the tour other than we recommend dressing in waterproof clothing when there is rain in the forecast. If the conditions are dangerous the tour will be cancelled and you will receive a refund.
